Almere is a great place for hiking. There are many walks in the beautiful and relaxing
natural areas of Almere,
such as the woods of Almeerderhout, Pampushout and the Wilgenbos. These walks are marked by signposts in a specific colour and generally start from a central location, like
car parks of the natural areas mentioned above. Moreover, during some of these walks you will encounter lakes and beaches.
Walking is also a pleasant way to discover Almere's
modern architecture. There are
guided architectural tours in Almere as well, provided by De Gebouwengids.
Cyclists will love Almere, because there are bicycle lanes throughout and beyond the city, which makes cycling a safe and perfect way to
explore the area. Besides, there are signs just about everywhere, which makes it impossible to get lost. In addition, there's
a cycling network, connecting many key points by numbers and signposts. By using the cycling network it's easy to design your own bike trip.
You can get a map with the numbered dots of the cycling network at the Almere Tourist Board.
